New Build:
Private Dwelling, Devon
New Private Dwelling

A new replacement dwelling of a traditional Edwardian house which was devastated by an electrical fire. The client wanted a more modern home, with interesting spaces for entertaining, whilst retaining a sense of tradition and quality. We were asked to create an open plan home, where a couple could happily live, but also be flexible enough to cater for family visits and large social events. Our clients had very specific taste, and wanted oak structure and joinery to play a role throughout the whole house without it being dated and heavy.

A series of generous open plan living spaces where designed around a commanding central stair and well, all positioned on different levels to drop down to the established gardens at the rear. The use of different levels, and variation in ceiling heights created an interesting spaces which linked to each other, but all had different characteristics. The house from the exterior has a lovely texture and tone related to the use of natural materials with the rear of the property opening up with large expanses of glazing set between oak posts onto a covered terrace, and established gardens beyond. The impeccable taste of our clients lead to a high quality finish specification which has created a truly remarkable house.
